According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) - some people also called it as Feng Shui, everything in nature is tied in to certain cycles, patterns and themes, the elements of fire, earth, wood, metal and water influence everything about our bodies – and our lives. What’s the point? Just as in nature, keeping it all in a harmonic flow. It’s the difference between a haircut that shows off your best side, and a colour which makes you look ill, it’s believed that each element even corresponds to an organ in the body, a sense, a season, a direction, and an emotion, and this is often used as a diagnostic tool for such a treatment.

So why is it useful to know about the five elements when you’re just considering your hair and make-up? To borrow another term from TCM, it’s all about keeping the Qi flowing! Qi is life force, energy, movement, and breath. Ever walked into a room and felt stifled? A Feng Shui master would say it had Qi problems. Move some things around, change the colours and balance out the yin and yang, et voila! A room which energises you as opposed to one that sucks the life out of you.

Isn’t it cool if we could living a whole life in balance?
